By the end of this trip Chile will have stamped my passport 12 times.
Our next destination was the transportation hub of Puerto Montt (last stop before the cookie that is Chile crumbles into little pieces and normal road travel is impossible). We were hoping to catch a bus south but none were in the mood to depart for at least two days. Okay, change of plans: hop a ferry instead to the lovely island of Chiloe and see what´s going on over there.
Chiloe is known for it´s palafitos (houses on stilts), which the government is torn between preserving as national treasures or condemning as slums. I´d say it´s a tough call. In any case it was a more interesting place to wait for the next bus south than cheerless Puerto Montt with its giant freaky lovers statue.
