Salt Flats Will Blow Your Mind

From here we joined a three day tour of the Salar de Uyuni and the surrounding lakes and desert. The Salar de Uyuni is in fact the world´s largest salt flat and can be seen from space. Driving across it during the rainy season is like driving a jeep across the ocean. The sky and mountains are reflected perfectly in the 6cm of water that covers the salt. It’s a very freaky sensation.

Aside from the unique salar, we also enjoyed the company of flamingos, llamas and alpaca in the Reserva de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa.

Upon returning to Uyuni I quickly discovered that something the tour´s dear cook, Juanita, cooked up didn’t quite work for me. My temperature went through the roof and I almost died (bit over-dramatic here). The availability of over the counter antibiotics saved my life and, along with the spectacular cuisine at Minuteman Pizza, made our time in Uyuni unforgettable. That´s for sure.
