Travelling along the historic Srinagar–Leh highway, the route allows gradual acclimatization while revealing a remarkable transition in landscapes, cultures, and architecture. Over 12 unhurried days, guests experience charming towns like Kargil and Uleytokpo before entering the spiritual and natural heart of Ladakh. The journey continues through Nubra Valley, the remote border village of Turtuk, and the shimmering waters of Pangong Lake, offering a richly layered exploration of history, nature, and Himalayan life.

DAY 1
Arrival Srinagar

Upon arrival at Srinagar Airport or Srinagar Railway Station (SINA) via Vande Bharat Express (Departure Katra station: 1455 hrs / Arrival Srinagar station: 1753 hrs), meet and assist for transfer to Dal Lake.

Note: (Vande Bharat train does not operate on Wednesdays)

Srinagar Airport to Dal Lake is approximately 25 kms / 50 minutes to 1 hour drive.

Srinagar Rail station to Dal Lake is approximately 22 kms / 40 minutes to 1 hour drive.

Board your traditional Kashmiri houseboat, renowned for its intricate wooden interiors. Later, enjoy a relaxing Shikara ride across Dal Lake, gliding past floating gardens, lotus patches, and lakeside life with views of the Zabarwan Hills.

Evening at leisure to unwind and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.

DAY 2
Srinagar Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed sightseeing tour of Srinagar:
Mughal Gardens – Nishat Bagh & Shalimar Bagh
Shankaracharya Temple (optional, subject to conditions)
Dal Lake Shikara Ride in the evening

Dinner at the hotel/houseboat.

DAY 3
Srinagar Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed sightseeing tour of Srinagar:
Mughal Gardens – Nishat Bagh & Shalimar Bagh
Shankaracharya Temple (optional, subject to conditions)
Dal Lake Shikara Ride in the evening

Dinner at the hotel/houseboat.

DAY 4
Srinagar – Kargil (Approx. 200 Kms 5 to 6 hours)

After early breakfast, depart for Kargil via:

Sonamarg – Meadow of Gold
Zoji La Pass – Gateway to Ladakh
Drass – second coldest inhabited place in the world

Kargil lies along the historic Srinagar–Leh route, set amid stark mountains and the Suru River valley. En-route visit Kargil War Memorial at Drass which commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War, offering a moving tribute against a dramatic Himalayan backdrop.

Arrive in Kargil by afternoon and later visit Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum.

Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum – A unique museum in Kargil showcasing Central Asian trade artifacts, old Tibetan manuscripts, and local heritage.

Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 5
Kargil Sightseeing – Uleytokpo

After breakfast, drive along the Indus River toward Uleytokpo. Enroute visit Mulbekh Monastery & Lamayuru Monastery (approx. 156 kms / 4 to 5 hours drive)

Mulbekh Serdung Monastery, is one of the oldest Buddhist sites in Ladakh, believed to date back to the 8th century. Perched along the Srinagar–Leh highway, it is famed for its ancient rock-cut sanctuary and rich blend of Buddhist and early Himalayan art traditions.

Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s oldest Buddhist monasteries, dates back to the 10th century. Located on the Leh–Srinagar highway, it belongs to the Drikung Kagyu sect and is famous for its moon-like landscape, ancient murals, spiritual significance, and panoramic valley views.

Arrive at the serene village of Uleytokpo.

Overnight: Uleytokpo
DAY 6
Uleytokpo – Leh (Monasteries & Sightseeing En Route)

After breakfast at the hotel in Uleytokpo, drive towards Leh (approx. 4 to 5 hours), enjoying the scenic Indus Valley and surrounding mountains. En route, visit:

·       Alchi Monastery – One of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries, renowned for its 11th-century murals, intricate wood carvings, and unique ground-level temples blending Kashmiri and Buddhist art.

·       Likir Monastery – Famous for its giant gold-plated Maitreya Buddha, ancient scriptures, and serene hilltop setting offering panoramic valley views.

·       Basgo Palace Ruins (photostop) – Dramatic mud-brick fort and temple complex reflecting Ladakh’s royal heritage, overlooking the Indus River.

·       Sangam Viewpoint – Witness the confluence of the green Indus and muddy Zanskar rivers, a striking natural landmark near Nimmu village.

Continue the drive to Leh, arrive by evening, check in at the hotel, enjoy dinner, and overnight stay.

DAY 7
Leh – Local Sightseeing

After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy light sightseeing around Leh:

  • Leh Palace – A 17th-century nine-story former royal palace overlooking Leh town, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, traditional Ladakhi architecture, and a glimpse into the region’s regal past.
  • Shanti Stupa – A serene white-domed stupa perched on a hilltop, ideal for sunset views, offering spiritual ambiance, sweeping vistas of Leh, and insight into Buddhist art and teachings.
  • Local Market – Explore Leh’s vibrant bazaars, filled with handicrafts, Pashmina shawls, jewelry, and souvenirs, offering a chance to experience Ladakhi culture and interact with friendly local artisans.

Rest of the day free for acclimatization. Dinner at the hotel.



Overnight: Leh
DAY 8
Leh – Nubra Valley via Khardung La

After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley (approx. 120 Kms / 3 to 3.5 hours) via the Khardung La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable roads, offering breathtaking mountain vistas, winding switchbacks, and panoramic views of the high-altitude landscape.

On arrival in Nubra, visit:

  • Diskit Monastery – Famous for its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley, this centuries-old monastery offers panoramic desert views, traditional prayer rituals, and insight into Buddhist monastic life.
  • Hunder Sand Dunes – Iconic cold desert terrain where you can ride Bactrian camels, explore golden sand dunes, and marvel at the stark contrast of desert and mountains in the high-altitude desert landscape.

Check in at the hotel/camp, enjoy dinner, and relax.



Overnight: Nubra Valley
DAY 9
Nubra – Turtuk Excursion

After breakfast, depart for a full-day excursion to Turtuk (approx. 2.5 to 3 hours’ drive one-way), a remote Balti village near the Indo-Pak border.

Explore:

  • Traditional Stone Houses – Wander through charming stone and mud houses, preserving centuries-old architecture and reflecting the unique lifestyle of the Balti people.
  • Apricot Orchards – Visit lush orchards producing locally prized apricots, and witness the region’s agricultural traditions in the serene Shyok valley.
  • Village Walk Along Shyok River – Enjoy scenic riverside strolls, experience local hospitality, and take in the stunning mountain vistas surrounding this culturally rich borderland village.

Return to Nubra by evening, have dinner, and overnight stay.



Overnight: Nubra Valley
DAY 10
Nubra – Pangong Lake

After breakfast, drive to Pangong Tso via the Shyok–Agham route (road conditions permitting approx. 170 kms / 4 to 5 hours drive), traversing high-altitude landscapes and vast plains.

Arrive at Pangong Lake, a stunning high-altitude lake stretching across India and Tibet.

  • Pangong Tso – Famous for its mesmerizing shades of blue that shift with sunlight, tranquil waters, and dramatic mountain backdrop, perfect for photography, lakeside walks, and soaking in the serene alpine environment.

Check in at the lakeside camp/hotel, enjoy dinner, and relax under the starry sky.



Overnight: Pangong Lake
DAY 11
Pangong Lake – Hanle

After an early breakfast, depart for Hanle (approx. 239 kms / 5–6 hours drive), passing through the remote, windswept Changthang plateau dotted with nomadic settlements and rugged landscapes.

On arrival, visit:

  • Hanle Monastery – Perched dramatically above the valley, this centuries-old monastery showcases Tibetan-style architecture, prayer halls, and peaceful surroundings amid the stark beauty of high-altitude Ladakh.
  • Indian Astronomical Observatory (Viewpoint) – One of the world’s highest observatories, offering a glimpse of cutting-edge astronomical research and unparalleled views of pristine, unpolluted night skies.

Evening free for stargazing in one of the clearest skies on Earth. Dinner at the homestay/hotel.



Overnight: Hanle
DAY 12
Hanle – Leh

After breakfast, drive back to Leh (approx. 260 Kms / 5–6 hours) through expansive high-altitude plains, snow-capped peaks, and remote mountain passes.

Evening arrival in Leh provides time for:

  • Leh Market / Souvenir Shopping – Browse for traditional handicrafts, Thangka paintings, Pashmina shawls, and jewelry while soaking in the town’s lively cultural atmosphere.

Check in at the hotel, enjoy dinner, and overnight stay.

DAY 13
Leh – Departure

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Leh Airport for your onward flight.

The tour concludes with lasting memories of Kashmir’s valleys, Ladakh’s dramatic landscapes, cultural villages, historic sites, iconic lakes, and the remote beauty of Hanle.
